Artist Spotlight: Saucyy Slim

21 year old rapper, Saucyy Slim, released her debut tracks “3:33” and “Make It Clear” on all streaming platforms, introducing herself with unwavering self love and an old-school vulnerability. New to the game but an old soul, Slim exudes confidence with her empowering lyrics while maintaining a flow that hits all the right spots. Don’t be fooled by her age; this Nashville native’s game resembles the 90’s and early 2000’s rap sound as effectively as a seasoned vet. Taking influence from Tupac and Kendrick Lamar, Slim utilizes story-telling lyrics, while combining feminine strength and vulnerability (and a singing voice to die for) from artists like Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu.

Though artistic her whole life, Slim only recently began writing and rapping professionally. She credits much of her artistry to her grandmother, who always played a wide variety of music as well as dabbled in writing and singing herself.

Of her grandmother, Slim says, “...she introduced me to music. All different kinds, even like classic rock. It made me want to explore different genres and types of music.”

While not quite reminiscent of the grunge and distorted electric guitars classic rock can bring to the table, Slim’s music does take influence from the unapologetic and oftentimes rebellious attitude that is so present in the classic rock genre.

“My overall goal is for people to be empowered and embrace themselves through my music...You can be vulnerable and still be an awesome strong person. It’s ok to be emotional sometimes.” Says Slim, and her music reflects it. One listen and you’ll likely find yourself dancing along, feeling like you can handle anything thrown your way.

For Slim, the horizon is glowing. Along with her two released singles, she has several lined up to be released throughout the year, ending with a full project out in the fall. As our phone interview concluded, I asked her if there was anything she’d like to add. She said, “Believe in yourself, you only have one life to live so go for your dreams. That’s my final note.”
